Summary

Corrections professionals who foster a humane and secure environment and ensure public safety by preparing individuals for successful reentry into our communities.

Duties

Involved the operation and production of a factory engaged in the rebuilding and remanufacturing of a wide variety of complex vehicular equipment and
components for various agencies of the federal government including the military by utilizing an inmate work force.

Manufactures injection molds including designs to meet mill specifications for the UNICOR Vehicular Re-manufacturing plant.

Provides on the-job training and study programs for inmate crew members in both welding and machine shop operations.

Records inmate work hours for payroll purposes and accurately tracks the cost to produce re-manufactured and reconditioned goods.

Along with all other correctional institution employees incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. The staff correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and are performed on a regular and recurring basis.

Qualifications

To be considered for the position you must meet the following qualification requirements.

Applicants must have had sufficient training and experience to show their ability to perform the duties of the position.

Qualifications will be determined by comparing your application to the responses to the Applicant Assessment Questions against the guidelines found in the Job Qualification System for Trades and Labor Occupations WS-3414 series.

To qualify for this position you MUST meet the Barely Acceptable level on both screen-out elements (Ability to supervise) and (Aptitude for work with prisoners); receive at least one half of the total possible points; AND you must furnish detailed information on your resume to support your assessment responses to demonstrate that you clearly possess the experience and skills to successfully perform the duties of this position. Failure to specifically identify skills in this field may result in your score being lowered or in being found ineligible for this vacancy.

Applicants MUST also possess the following Selective the event that you do not possess the Selective Factor you will be found ineligible for the position.

• Applicant must posses a current certification reflecting completion of a minimum of 4000 hours of technical instruction as a Machinist as recognized by a state or local industry or provide documented proof of on the-job training in machining fabrication and sheet metal work.

Additional information

In accordance with 5 U.S.C. 3307 a maximum entry age of 36 has been established for original appointment to a position in a Bureau of Prisons institution.

If you are above the maximum entry age and have prior federal law enforcement coverage you MUST submit an SF-50 to verify prior coverage.

Qualified Preference Eligible Veterans may be exempt from meeting the maximum age. Please refer to the Required Documents Section for the appropriate documentation to submit to validate veteran eligibility.

Special Conditions of Employment Section:

Appointment is subject to satisfactory completion of a pre-employment and panel interview urinalysis physical and background investigation.

All applicants are subject to and must satisfactorily pass all screening requirements in relation to National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and credit check.

All applicants not currently working in an institution will be required to complete a qualification inquiry regarding convictions of misdemeanor crimes of domestic violence in order to be authorized to carry a firearm.

Successful completion of the Introduction to Correctional Techniques three-week training course at Glynco Georgia is required.

NOTE: A 5% RETENTION INCENTIVE MAY BE PAID TO SELECTEE(S) WHO MEETS THE CRITERIA FOR RETENTION INCENTIVES.
